garlic bread

I am supposed to be tidying up, I’m getting a visitor tonight. And given the state the house is in, I’m going to be a terrible host (note to self: check if there is hot water in the shower at least). Well, that’s why FatCat has a 50% student discount, am I right?

Dear pancaketeers,

as you can probably guess, with all I was up to during the holidays and despite my very best intentions and carrying (very heavy!!!) textbooks through half of England, no studying happened in that time. Talk about bruises on my thigh and aches in my back for nothing! Which, upon coming back to Nottingham, with approx. 2 1/2 days before my first exam, and then equally as much to prepare for each next essay and exam. And let me tell you, I’m no Toast! Working on such tight deadlines ain’t for me, ohhhh no! So by the end of it, I felt pretty raw, I think one more day and I would’ve had a complete meltdown (got close enough as it was). It is good to know though, that a very decent essay can be written in 2 1/2 days if necessary.
I have to admit, of course, that the weekend in between went by kind of unused, with multiple cinema visits and weird improvised lasagne and walks around Beeston and, of course, improv. It was incredibly enjoyable though, and I regret alsmost nothing.

Well, and ever since then, I’ve been free! Which turns out to not be as productive as I had planned/wanted it to be…

But at least Toast came visit! We/I finally went to the Batman house, and back to PitandPendulum and everywhere else I wanted to show her and we met everyone I wanted her to meet and she even got to be part of a breakfast quest, yay. I had a great time having her here and showing her around, she is a very agreeable roommate ♥

Since she left nothing much has happened, except improv Sundays and lots of sleep and slow but steady preparations for my inevitable departure. I am practically living at the imrpov house now, since my house here feels less and less likeable by the day, and even though the heating there is on far too little, I have a decent kitchen, and hot chocolate (I basically live off the stuff lately, literally, whole days pass where I have nothing but hot choc until dinner tea), and a Squirrel Minion of Darkness who comes back from uni in the afternoons and friends who go to Tesco’s wth me (to buy more hot chocolate, and possibly some wine and cheesecake – yet I am actually not being that unhealthy, there is always salad and chicken for dinner tea, so I guess it’s a balance?).

Well yeah, that’s that. Not too exciting. It slowly starts feeling like it’s time for me to go home.

almost burned bisquits

Dear pancaketeers,

outside, the big, fluffy flakes have given way to a steady downfall of fine snow, and after jumping around the house excitedly I decided this would be a good time for me to give a sign of life.

I am very, very sorry I stopped daily blogging. I don’t even really know why, I guess everything felt so normal and routined that, lulled in my wintery laziness as well, didn’t feel like reporting them. I mostly did what I would’ve done at home, you know? Going for coffee and Christmas shopping with friends, and spening time with Squirrel Minion of Darkness (best decision ever made on this blog, naming him that). I don’t even remember where I left off…. I don’t think I’ve told you about the Christmas dinner at the improv house (great fun, beer bottles with stars on top of christmas trees, mulled wine, Christmas pudding -not my taste – and nerf guns for secret Santa)? Or going to see the Mockingjay (hell, what an intense film, I might just go see it again)? Or about the last week before the Holidays, which was pretty useless from an academic point of view (I did do reasonably well in my Mandarin oral though, hopefully), but brought with them the sudden and rather shocking realization, that the semester is over! After the holidays, nothing will be the same anymore, what with exam stress and all. There is only exams, and once the studying and barely passing is done, my time here is oficially over. And even though I know that I will be staying for few weeks longer than that, the sense of finality is now rooted in my thoughts, whether these concern improv, or uni ife, or Nottingham or my friendships here.

Enough about this! Back to the present, or rather the past. The first week of holidays was spent in blissful laziness, interrupted only by coffee-appointments and Christmas errands here and there – and again, more or less permanent goodbyes on various fronts (I am well aware that amidst studying, exams and Christmas, I won’t really see many of my classmates again). Nottingham has a weird feel to it when you know that close to everyone except you has left…. Eventually, Squirrel Minion of Darkness left for home as well, leaving me two days to myself and to prepare the arrival of my Christmas company, namely my beloved little brother. Between sightseeing and Christmas and successful baking, we somehow managed to get through the whole series of Korra in 4 days. So productive! Tomorrow we’re leaving for London.

I want to try and blog more frequently again, I actually quite enjoy this form of sharing, but from a hostel common room this should be difficult. So, see you in the new year!!! (I also have lots of pictures I want to edit in at various points)

Oh, and happy belated Christmas everyone!

Countdown

My head is so full of things that keep me thinking and that I want to put up here and share with you. But even at the rare moments when I have a little time, I can not relax properly, not focus on what I want to say. Because in my head, a clock began ticking backwards.

60 days left. only

In 60 days is the first of the final exams everyone has been worrying about this whole year. And now that they are so close, I begin to panick too! There is just so MUCH that I still need to look at, study, revise, make charts of and take notes for better memory. Even right now, my head is twirling with thoughts of which excercises I have to complete till tonight and what time I have to get up tomorrow to do all the stuff I didn’t manage today.

On the bright side, in only 60 days (and a few weeks adding the time of the exams) I will actually have finished school. Forever. Can you believe it? I can’t, but I think it’s a feeling I could get used to ;)

I thought about getting a summer job, but this is probably not going to happen. It’s more important that I spend a lot of time with my friends.

And now, Physics is waiting, sigh…  Bye people, take a little soundtrack for the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gyteb16owdk&feature=related

What caught my eye today: my laptop’s keyboard. Not only is it permanently dusty, no matter how often I clean it, it’s also pretty worn by now. Most faded of all is the enter key – I chat a lot, apparently. But I do lov that it has developed its own character. For example, it likes to type th letters ‘e’ and ‘s’ twice, so don’t think these are MY mistakes :P
